Under the heading "type" it reads basic and the file system is FAT Hi Bob, Is there a dual boot menu - a choice of which OS to start - on bootup? If not, what's the indicator that you still have WK2 on the system? Your not seeing more than one partition has me puzzled.

Hi Bob, I've asked for opinions on questions to ask:. Thanks again. I installed the CD while Windows was running. There is definitely a dual boot menu which asks me to select which OS I want to choose.

It will default to XP if I do not do anything. If I select , the Windows OS will open. Can I do that? Hi Torcano! Yes, you can do a clean installation of WinXP. Even if you had attempted a format, Win2K wouldn't have let you since it can't destroy itself while running.

There is a small problem and that is the dual boot menu. Even if you format during installation, it will still be there when you are finished. To deal with that, you have to restart the computer after having formated it and let the WinXP installer detect an empty hard disk and not have the old information about an existing operating system in your case, two.

Restarting at that point is not an option during the installation of WinXP. I would use a Win98 start disk to format the hard disk. If you don't have one, it can be downloaded here. Insert an empty floppy disk in the drive and double click the downloaded file. It will create the Win98 start disk for you. Start the computer with the floppy in the tray. The hard disk will get formated and when finished, you will be prompted for a label. Press ctrl-alt-del and the computer should restart from the CD and the installation will commence.

Good luck! Christer ,. Sorry to butt in Christer, but it sounds like he parallel installed XP into the same partition as 2k. Even if he does have two separate partitions these can both be deleted from the XP setup and a new one created, which will also remove the old ntloader files.

McTavish ,. Hi McTavish! Butting in is what this board is about As long as the same OS is reinstalled there is no problem but if it is a different one, according to my experience, there is. It allows you to remove program or traces of programs that won't uninstall completely.

Anyways looks like running Revo a few times and uninstalling the different bits was the trick. Uninstalling it the standard way leaves pieces of the program which Kaspersky doesn't like. Probably the agent, although it doesn't impact anything, if it is talking to an EPO server, it will or might pull down McAfee again, removing your other AV product.

As Win does not include an uninstall feature and requires its own partition NTFS when it is loading how do you uninstall win, and revert to win 98 and FAT32 without fdisk, format and loss of data, if it is loaded as the 2nd system on a dualboot system with win 98?
