Our alumni pursue a variety of paths: Some work for national or state government agencies such as the National Security Agency, the Department of Homeland Security and the Maryland Emergency Management Agency. About the Program The Chisago County Sheriff's Office Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division provides a comprehensive and integrated emergency management system that coordinates community resources to protect lives, property, and the environment through mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery from all natural and man-made hazards that may impact Chisago County.

Emergency Management encompasses 4 phases: Mitigation - actions taken to prevent disasters or lessen the harmful effects of unavoidable disasters. Preparedness - planning and training for potential disasters and emergencies. Response - includes all those actions taken to lessen the impact of an actual emergency. City Contacts. The Master of Science in management's specialization in homeland security management prepares you for professional positions concerned with protecting the country against natural and human-made domestic and international threats such as terrorism, transnational crime, and cybercrime.

In this program, you will also learn about maintaining cybersecurity, transportation security, intelligence, civil liberties, emerging technology integration, international engagement, and private-sector partnerships and collaboration. You'll attain the requisite knowledge and skills necessary for professional homeland security positions involving cybersecurity; risk and threat assessments; the design and management of operational disaster relief recovery; and the development of strategies essential to the protection of individuals, facilities, and critical infrastructure.

Our curriculum is designed with input from employers, industry experts, and scholars. You'll learn theories combined with real-world applications and practical skills you can apply on the job right away. If you completed your undergraduate degree at UMGC with coursework in homeland security, a vertical pathway between UMGC's graduate and undergraduate degree programs in that field allows you to reduce your total coursework for this program by up to 6 credits.

You must maintain a GPA of 3. All degree requirements must be fulfilled within five consecutive years. Any transfer credits must have been earned within the five-year time frame to be applied toward a graduate degree.

This sequence incorporates course prerequisites and program requirements but does not list course alternatives that may be available.

We recommend you take a maximum of 6 credits per term. You cannot take a prerequisite with its subsequent course during the same session.

Your plan will be unique and dependent on multiple factors, including the number of credits you transfer to this program. Contact an advisor if you any questions about this plan, course alternatives, or your course load limit. This program is designed to help prepare you to take a leadership role in protecting against natural and human-induced threats to homeland security.

Taking UCSP is recommended to improve writing skills. The Public Safety Student Association encourages discussions on careers, current events, and topics within the public safety field. Previous activities have included webinars on related topics and careers. Our world-class faculty members combine academic credentials with a wealth of experience in the field. The discount for Federal employees and their spouses and eligible dependents will be applied to out-of-state tuition and specialty graduate programs.

It does not apply to doctoral programs. This discount cannot be combined with the Completion Scholarship for Maryland community college students or the Pennsylvania Completion Scholarship. Undergraduate and standard graduate program tuition for students who meet the criteria for Maryland residency will be the applicable in-state rate. Public Health Service and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; and the spouses and dependents of these student groups will be the applicable military or specialty rate.
